A 'Window' for Dialogue May Open Between Europe and Russia: Details Explained in Germany

A possibility for dialogue regarding the war in Ukraine may gradually open between Europe and Russia. However, it is likely to take months rather than weeks before such negotiations begin.

This was stated by an anonymous representative of the German government at a briefing, as reported by Reuters.

According to the German official, it is currently important to create an effective format for dialogue that European countries will consider legitimate. At the same time, it remains unclear who might lead such negotiations.

Berlin believes that the E3 group — Germany, France, and the United Kingdom — may continue to play an important role in this process.

The German official noted that recent combat actions indicate that a certain amount of time will be needed to initiate the negotiation process. Moreover, he stated that any dialogue must occur in full coordination with Ukraine.

Separately, Berlin emphasizes that Europe should not compete with the United States but coordinate its actions with Washington. American mediation efforts to end the war have currently stalled, particularly due to the U.S. focus on the situation surrounding Iran.

In this context, Germany is paying attention to the situation on the front lines. The advance of Russian troops has slowed this year, while Ukraine is increasing pressure on the battlefield and actively launching long-range strikes on Russian territory.

Latest News on Peace Negotiations in Ukraine

Earlier, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that reaching an agreement to end the war by winter is a "realistic" outcome.

Additionally, Budanov believes that Europe is unlikely to act as a mediator in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. However, at a certain stage, the EU should join the process as a full participant.

At the same time, the governments of Germany and other European countries have rejected Vladimir Putin's proposal regarding the possible participation of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder in future negotiations with Moscow.

It is worth noting that it was previously reported that an official delegation from the United States will soon visit Kyiv and Moscow. This visit could revive the unofficial negotiations currently ongoing.
